GREAT GOLF MOVIES TO WATCH AT HOME

Since we are all probably staying at home this weekend and maybe for days to come, why not tune in to some of the great golf movies that have been made over the years. Here are some of my favorites and where to get them if you don’t already have them!

CADDYSHACK

is a 1980 American sports comedy film directed by Harold Ramis and starring Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield, Ted Knight, Michael O’Keefe and of course Bill Murray. But, just in case you have not seen it, it is about life at an exclusive golf club whose members are trying to deal with a brash new member and a destructive dancing gopher. ESPN says it is “perhaps the funniest sports movie ever made”. I have fond memories of watching this movie with my Dad and then listening to him trying to impersonate Bill Murray! Where can you find Caddyshack? It’s no longer available on Netflix but you can get it right here from Amazon

TIN CUP

Another one of my favorite golf movies that I have watched at least 10 times is Tin Cup. How can you not fall in love with Kevin Costner in this movie! Filmed in 1996, it’s about a washed up golf pro working at a driving range who tries to qualify for the US Open in order to win the heart of his successful rival’s girlfriend. Renee Russo, Cheech Martin and Don Johnson were all great in this pic! Check out this trailer.

THE GREATEST GAME EVER PLAYED

While there are so many other great golf movies, like The Legend of Bagger Vance or Happy Gilmore, one of my ALL time favorites is The Greatest Game Ever Played. Set mainly in 1913, this film is about Francis Ouimet played by Shia LaBeouf, the first amateur to win the U.S. Open. Amateur golf in that era was a sport only for the wealthy, and Ouimet came from an immigrant family that was part of the working class. Ouimet watches an exhibition by legendary British golf pro Harry Vardon as a 7-year-old boy, and becomes very interested in golf. This biographical film portrays his implausible win of the 1913 U.S. Open. I love the message this film sends and it would be a wonderful film to watch with the entire family! Definitely check this one out if you haven’t already. Watch the trailer here.

I am actually looking forward to watching ALL of these over again. Will also post next week about some great horse movies, too! There are so many of those to watch as well. So stay home, stay healthy and watch all of these great movies with your family!
