Another Great Horse Farm in Southern Pines Horse Country

While I will be writing about many wonderful horse farms, equestrian estates, and spectacular training facilities and barns around the country, I feel as though I need to share more about the horse farms in this special place I call home first!

 

Do you know what a hunt box is?

 

As I show the property to many folks from around the world, when I ask them if they know what a “hunt box” is, many say “What?” The term "hunt box” originated in England and refers to a home used during hunting season, be it a fox or other game in our area in was a fox. In the southern U.S., it often means living quarters built above a stable. To live above your horses?

 

Really?

 

Think about it. When northerners came down to “winter” here and brought their horses with them. They would bring them for three or four months of the year to get out of the brutal winters of the northeast. This was much easier and cost-efficient to build smaller apartments above their barns. Why build two buildings when you can build just one?
